Dear Max,
I am applying for the farmhand position held on your farm in Arizona. I trust that my strong background in farming, livestock, and fixing equipment would pose me as a great candidate for your position. The school year will end for me in two months, at which I will need a summer job to help contribute to my college fund. This job matches many of my skills and attributes, which is why I believe I am the man for the job.

Throughout my high school life I have done ranch work for numerous local ranchers, as well as raising my own livestock, and working two summers at the Five Rivers Feedlots. I will graduate from Roosevelt High School in May 2011, with a 4.0 GPA my senior year, and a 3.5 overall GPA. Since I was eight years old I have raised and bred hogs, cattle, sheep, and goats. I am a hardworking individual who values academics, family, hospitality, and work.

While attending Roosevelt I have shown livestock through FFA and 4-H, learning the essentials of farming. Also competing in football, track, baseball, weight lifting, and shooting sports for years. Half of my college tuition is paid for, but working on your farm for a few months will contribute ever so greatly to everything else that is unpaid. This would generate enough money to cover the cost of living expenses and books alone.

It is my lifetime goal of graduating college and starting my own successful career. I am certain I can accomplish this goal, as is evident from all those years of intense competition. All my hard work and dedication has me convinced that I would be an excellent pick for your position. You can reach me on my cell at (970)-324-0591 and e-mail address remmington16@gmail.com. I appreciate you taking the time to review this letter.

                                    Sincerely,

the world 100 years from now

In a well developed paragraph, discuss what you believe the world will be like 100 years from now. Will it be a good or bad place to live?

I believe that 100 years from now our Earth will be a dangerous place to live, and therefore a bad place to reside. I love our world greatly, but I honestly believe that advances in technology, terrorism, and overpopulation will contribute to the downfall of our world. Our technology will be superb, but we might use it to produce nuclear weapons. This would result in catastrophic death tolls, and causing dramatic weather changes to occur in that part of the globe. It doesn’t matter if we have a cure for cancer or AIDS, with rapid increases in population we will be killing hundreds of people daily just because of starvation. Overpopulation is another key component, as it can cause food and water shortages, and insufficient places to live. We will have literally run the planet out of resources, and massive starvation and droughts will take place again. Terrorism and war will also take place, due to the lack of resources from overpopulation, and the development of stronger nuclear devices. It will be a dark and dangerous world, a desert wasteland, full of bandits and thieves. Hence, I predict our world to be an unlivable place to live one century from now.

Technology

Write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) on the following question: Explain the importance of technology, and what it has provided for you.

When humanity views the world today we often take for granted the special things that technology offers us. Technology has allowed people to live longer, healthier, and less stressful lives. It has benefited me with easier work, and allowed me to research homework with a click of a button. It provides light with a switch of a button, clean healthy water with a turn of a nozzle, and a more effective way of traversing miles at a time while letting our cars do all the work. Cellular devices and phones are used for emergencies and our entertainment, providing people around the globe with a safer and less stressful environment. Technology has truly advanced us through the ages, and without it our world would definitely be darker.
